A draft decision has been issued after an assessment of South Korea’s personal data protection law and practices, finding an essentially equivalent level of protection to the GDPR, including similar principles, safeguards, individuals rights and obligations, the investigatory and enforcement powers of the PIPC, and additional safeguards relating to transparency, onward transfers, and possible access to data by public authorities.
