Transparency: Brazil Court Orders Four Companies to Remove Scam Websites

The companies’ websites attracted and misled consumers about the payment of services for registration of individual microentrepreneurs, which is carried out free of charge on a government website (exposing consumers’ personal data by requiring individuals to grant permission to access their Brasil Cidadão Platform with a password, thus allowing them to obtain illegal access to data from thousands of citizens); a Brazilian Court ordered four companies to remove their website within 48 hours, or face a penalty of R$100,000 per day of non-compliance.
