Zoom have recently updated their terms and conditions of service and within that are some concerning aspects, notably with regards to AI. Zoom Video Communications, Inc. have put out some broad terms regarding user data and how they are able to use it. It has left many people within the industry concerned about consumer privacy.
Within these updated terms, Zoom have said that they have the right to compile and utilize any “Service Generated Data”. This would include any telemetry data, product usage data, diagnostic data and other similar content and data. The new policy states that Zoom hold all the rights to this data and are therefore permitted to use “for any purpose, to the extent and in the manner permitted under applicable law.”
One certain aspect that has concerned experts is a section that pertains to ‘machine learning and artificial intelligence’ including training and tuning of algorithms and models. This means that any customer content may be used by Zoom to train their AI.
