Legislation: US Bill Requires Mandatory Encryption Backdoors

If passed, Lawful Access to Encrypted Data Act (“Act”) is introduced in the United States Senate  – if passed, the Act will take effect 1 year after the date of enactment.

device manufacturers, operating system providers and remote computing services must, subject to a court order, furnish to law enforcement all information, facilities and assistance necessary to access information stored on an electronic device or remotely stored electronic information; entities that meet a certain threshold of sold devices or provision of services must ensure it has the ability to assist law enforcement for any device it designs, manufacturers, fabricates, assembles or intends for sale.
